Malaria
- the causative agent is a parasite (There are several Plasmodium species known to infect man, eg. Plasmodium falciparum
- The female Anopheles mosquito usually bites during the evening or at night.
- Anti-malarial drugs are available for treating malaria.
- Transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes.
- Signs & symptoms may develop after 7-30 days of being bitten by the mosquito.
- Fever patterns can be observed in malaria patients. (Every 3rd/4th day, a fever will spike. In some cases, day spikes are observed)
Dengue
- The causative agent is a virus. serotypes: DEN-1, DEN-2, and DEN-4
- The female Aedes mosquito usually bit or down & dusk.
- There are no drugs available for treating dengue. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important. so do not delay your visit to the hospital /clinic
- Transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. (In Malaysia, there are two species that transmit dengue, Aedes aegypti and Aedes laborious)
- Signs & symptoms may develop after 4-10 days of being bitten by the mosquito.
- No such distinctive fever pattern is observed in dengue patients.
